Product Details

This watch is so striking it should take its place as a museum showpiece. The workmanship and design of the completely handmade dragon (as well as the colors used to decorate the dragon) are unlike anything you've seen before on a watch. The dragon is shown against a black guilloche dial, again made completely by hand using machines that are 100 years or older.

When the watch first arrived in our offices, a serious debate began.  Should we frame it in a large frame and hang it on the wall?  Should we wear it to our largest shopping mall and visit several "high end" dealers to gauge their reaction (this was nixed as we don't wear watches we sell).

Or perhaps take it to Las Vegas to have it appraised at that now famous downtown shop and their experts?

All kidding aside, Jochen Benzinger has truly outdone himself.  What we like most about this watch is that it features all of the techniques that Jochen has perfected over his many years of creating spectacular timepieces.

The front of the watch starts off with a completely hand made dial that is guilloched on antique rose engines in Jochen's workshops in Pforzheim, Germany.  You'll notice the elaborate patterns drawn by a series of engraved lines and waves, one by one.  This dial plate is finished to a deep rich blue.

Next, the dragon, which literally takes its perch on top of the dial.  This dragon is drawn, engraved, cut and decorated completely by hand, and follows the form of the elaborate dragons often features in Chinese New Year street parades.  Jochen uses different colors of gold to decorate the dragon, including white, yellow, rose, red and blue.

And if that's not enough, just flip the watch over and you find a fully skeletonized and decorated movement in the traditional Benzinger style.

The case is matte on the sides and polished on the bezel, and features a screwed strap and deployant buckle.  Notice that the flame blued steel hands are two colors - traditional blue to a certain point and then white so as not to clash with the dragon design.

An amazing watch.
