Product Details

Dornblueth watches are made according to Dirk's time, one by one. The total production is often just eight pieces in one month, sometimes a bit more, sometimes a bit less.

Dirk cuts the metal, designs the movements, and creates virtually every piece of the watch himself, in his small workshop converted from a garage. Each watch takes time, a lot of time, and for this reason, no two watches are exactly the same.

The Dornblueth & Sohn Calibre 99.1 is a modification to Dirk's original design, the 99.0, and features an expanded size and placement of the sub seconds display. This may seem to be a small achievement, but in fact it is quite an engineering feat.

Dirk together with a long time family friend who is also a watchmaker created a cantilevered second pinion with friction spring that is indirectly driven below the train through an intermediate gear.

Everything is here - 3/4 plate, beveled edges, screw balance wheel, swan neck regulation, engraved balance cock, screwed gold chatons, and blued screws (by flame of course, including the slots).

And now the extras. The name "D. Dornblueth & Sohn, Kalbe i./S.A." is hand engraved and not machine engraved, a virtually rarity on any watch. And all of the decoration (Côtes de Genve and the sunray finish on the crown wheel and ratchet) are all done in-house, by hand.

You'll notice that the movement is rose gold in appearance - this process itself is elaborate. After cutting and polishing the plate, Dirk treats the surface to turn the metal a copper color. After all of the drilling and milling operations are complete, the movement itself is treated with rose gold to enhance the deep color.

The dial is coated in silver, and is matte finished with black applied Arabic numerals and Glashutte "railroad track" markings around both the dial and subdial. Blued steel hands.

This watch features a brushed and polished nickel-free steel case and the crown is signed D. Dornblueth. Power reserve is 50 hours.

This watch ships on a black calf leather Dornblueth strap with Dornblueth tang buckle.

Dornblueth & Sohn Calibre 99.1

"Dornblueth & Sohn Calibre 99.1"

Verified Owner Comments: Exceeded my every expectation. After a lot of research, I had high (likely unrealistic) expectations for this watch, and I am glad to report it exceeded all of them and more. The size is accurate on the site, it is a little large, BUT the case fits the movement, meaning there is no wasted space.  As a result, you appreciate the size for being function over form.  It is very comfortable (no sharp edges, crown does not dig into your wrist). The case if beautifully made, with a mixture of brushed and polished surfaces.  The crown is really well designed, and makes winding a joy. The dial is absolutely spectacular!  Beautiful iridescent silver finish, discreet name and Made in Germany text, and perfect railroad chapter rings.  The numerals are applied (not printed on the dial) and the hands are beautifully blued and have a nice shape.  Lots of little details that add up to something special. The strap is very nice.  Black alligator with a... - more details

Verified Owner Comments: This is a very special time piece.

You can see the beauty in it simplicity and craftsmanship. Knowing that the pieces are done by hand also adds to its amazing character. I have removed the black strap that came with it, and I opted for a Greg S strap that I was able to customize to the leather and stitching that I wanted.

I could not be happier with this watch or the service I received during my purchase.

Great watch
