Verified Watch Owner Comments: Hanhart is still a highly underrated brand in the watch universe. While not an unknown amongst enthusiasts, I think Hanhart is deserving of even more mind share in the watch world, especially when they have a real heritage and uninterrupted manufacturing history compared to many of the so-called micro brands that tend to come up in the several thousand dollar or less price segment.
Hanhart is a brand with a real story, and in my opinion still tends to fly under the radar in a consumer vertical where stories matter. The watch uses a Sellita movement, though I would encourage you to note that it's from Sellita's AMT division where they manufacture their higher end and custom movements. Performance wise, the movement is on-par or better than any I've owned in a sub-$10k chronograph.
The winding action is buttery smooth without peer in this price segment. To my touch it literally feels as smooth as winding a Lange 1815 chronograph. If you're in the market for a Lange chronograph, you can probably afford to impulsively purchase a Hanhart along with it to use as a more casual wearing daily chrono, and you should! I think the proportions on the 39mm case are spot on. It's not an ultra-thin case, but I find the proportions to be perfect for a sports/tool watch, and clearly the 417 is built to absorb a few knocks if needed.
I'm not one that recommends buying a less expensive watch as a substitute for another you have your heart set on, but if you're shopping for a watch and any of their designs catch your fancy, Hanhart is a must stop for your consideration. The value proposition aside, Hanhart's quality and performance deserves to be cross shopped against Tudor, Breitling, Tag Heuer, Longines (etc.) chronographs on their own merits as technical and quality peers. This is a luxury chronograph that stands on its own, not just as a value alternative. The fact that the Hanhart costs considerably less than many of the other luxury brands is a nice bonus.
And as always, I recommend Watchbuys without reservation. Easy to deal with and always responsive. I certainly understand there can be some trepidation when your only option is to purchase online, but Jon and team will take care of you great, even if you need to make a return. One last thing, and I think this is a credit to the brand. If you do have your heart set on a Hanhart and and you're ready to spend the money, I do not recommend delaying if the model and configuration you want are available.
I've noticed many models tend to sell pretty quickly. If a model is unavailable, I'm sure the wait for the next stocking is far less onerous than what Rolex will put you through, but be aware that even as an under the radar brand, there is obviously still a strong fan base and Hanhart clearly doesn't sacrifice quality for short term volume.
