Our Special Project
Several years ago, we began speaking with Sinn about creating a fully Tegimented (hardened) divers watch with a white dial, and it turns out that our friends at Sinn's Japanese importer and distributor had a similar idea. Working together, we designed a brand new Sinn EZM 3 featuring (for the first time) a white dial, along with a special bezel.
You won't find this new watch on Sinn's website, or anywhere else in the world other than WatchBuys and Japan. Sinn will produce a total of 200 pieces in this limited edition, of which 100 watches are allocated exclusively for WatchBuys' clients in the US and Canada, and 100 watches for the Japanese market.
We are now accepting reservations for the first pieces of this limited edition with each case back individually engraved (XXX/200).
A Rare Sinn White Dial
The name of this new watch is the Sinn EZM 3 SW - the "S" stands for Schwarz (black in German) to designate the black fully Tegimented DLC case, while the "W" stands for Weiss (white in German) for the matte white dial.
Sinn watches with white dials are somewhat rare in the general collection, and even more rare among Sinn's divers watches. Sinn has never produced an EZM 3 with a white dial before now, and has produced only a handful of divers watches with white dials (limited editions of the U1 W and U2 W remain highly collectible today).
This watch also features a redesigned bezel with red indices not found on other Sinn EZM 3 watches.
The New Diver With Attitude
The new Sinn EZM 3 SW Divers Limited Edition builds upon the impressive reputation of the Sinn EZM 3 Diver.
Featuring black SuperLuminova on the hour and minute hands and minute markers, these hands and markers appear as black during the day, but at night will glow green. The specially designed black bezel mimics Sinn's U Series dive watches by including red minute markers for the first quarter of the hour.
Not stopping there, Sinn paired this new white dial with a black case and matching quick adjust bracelet which both feature a Tegimented DLC finish. This hardening process offers extreme protection against wear and tear, scratches, and dings making the Sinn EZM 3 SW Divers both an extremely tough and extremely legible watch.
EZM Mission Timer DNA
Sinn is known for their professional special forces watches, called the
Einsatzzeitmesser Mission Timer Collection. The Sinn EZM 3 Series is the last of the original Sinn EZM Collections (the Sinn EZM 1, EZM 2 and EZM 4 have all been retired).
Sinn has long been a supplier of watches to various divisions of the German special forces, including the GSG9, border protection, customs, military and special police divisions. Designing watches for these units carries a number of requirements, including resistance to shocks, water, magnetism, and temperature changes among others.
There are also functional requirements in that the watch must be highly legible, and the controls must be practical for use in extreme environments. You'll notice that the crown is located on the left side of the case which prevents the crown from interfering with diving or tactical gloves.
With 500 meters of water resistance, the Sinn EZM 3 SW Divers Limited Edition has been tested to European diving equipment standards and certified by an independent testing institute.
Ar Dehumidifying Technology
The Ar Dehumidifying Technology is based on three technical elements: a special drying capsule, EDR seals (Extreme Diffusion Reducing) and a protective inert gas filling.
Mechanical watches require oils to ensure proper operation, and the proper care of any mechanical watch movement mandates that these oils maintain both their viscosity and lubrication properties.
Sinn has found that filling the case with inert gas can help prevent the introduction of moisture and humidity to the case, as well as provide a more stable environment for the oils that lubricate the movement. The presence of this technology combined with Sinn's special 66-228 oil allows for operation down to -45 degrees Celsius.
Special inert gas, signified by the red "Ar" symbol on the dial, is used to fill the watch case prior to being sealed. This process will prevent air from entering the watch case, which promotes a dry and stable environment and also prevents the dial and crystal from fogging.
The second aspect of this technology is a dehumidifying copper sulfate capsule that absorbs diffused atmospheric moisture within the watch, thus slowing down the aging process of the movement inside.
Finally, Sinn uses complex case and crown sealing measures including EDR seals to achieve a water resistance of 500 meters, or 50 bar.
Magnetic Field Protection - 80.000 A/m
The Sinn EZM 3 SW Divers Limited Edition offers magnetic field protection up to 80,000 A/m (1,000 Gauss), among the highest for any mechanical watch.
Magnetism can cause dramatic swings in the timekeeping of a mechanical watch movement. People are often exposed to magnetic fields without even knowing so from things like frequent high altitude flying, metal detectors, audio and video equipment, medical equipment and computer equipment to name a few.
Sinn employs a number of special technologies to achieve this 80,000 A/m rating, including constructing a soft iron sheath around the movement. The case back is also nickel free, offering protection to those sensitive to nickel.

This limited edition watch features special packaging along with a number of "goodies".
A special Sinn black textile strap with red stitching and matching black tang buckle is included, along with additional spring bars and a Sinn strap changing tool.
