Product Details

The Jochen Benzinger Zeitfenster II (Time Window) shows a unique "window" into the workings of the hand skeletonized mechanical movement where the chapter ring or hour numerals would typically be found.

Surrounding the hand guilloched sterling silver dial at the center is a ring that has been "cut out" to reveal the skeletonized blue platinum plated movement beneath.

The Breguet hands are in steel and flame blued by hand.

Other features include:

  • A partially cut out dial to view the movement from the front
  • Skeletonized movement, bridges and ratcheted crown wheel
  • Blue platinum plated exposed gears visible from the front
  • Hands which are blued by hand to match the coloring of the dial and gears
  • Case made in Pforzheim, Germany to Jochen's specifications and design
  • Sterling silver dial with hand guilloched center

This watch is made using traditional Pforzheim techniques (click here to learn more about these machines and the manufacturing process). The process of making just the dial can take days.

Next, he cuts out portions of the dial using a small engraver's hand saw. These cuts must be perfect - one slip can ruin the dial which has already been guillochéd.

This watch like all of Jochen's watches is one watch that you will want to turn over to show what a true artist can accomplish.  This watch is manually winding with a power reserve of 44 hours, and features a large sub seconds hand at 6.

Sapphire crystals on both sides with screwed balance. The presentation box is elaborate, and naturally features engraved plates describing and naming the watch.

This watch ships with a Benzinger calf leather strap and stainless steel buckle.

Watch specifications are provided by the respective watch manufacturer and/or other sources. Although we use best efforts to provide accurate information, we reserve the right to make corrections when advised of specification changes and/or content errors.

The Rose Engine

The rose engine is a type of geometric lathe, many of which date back more than 100 years.

Operated entirely by hand, each cut must be precisely made or the entire watch component is ruined and must be started again.

There are very few craftsmen in the world who are trained as experts in the operations of rose engines, engine turning and hand guilloche, and these techniques are employed in all Jochen Benzinger watches.

The Graver

This hand tool is the same as employed by the 16th century German painter and engraver Albrecht Durer.

Jochen Benzinger uses these graver tools to cut and decorate movement parts.

Skeleton Saw

A skeleton saw (or "fine fretsaw") is usually associated with work done by master goldsmiths, but Jochen Benzinger use this tool to create the skeletonizing of the bridges.
