A Secret That's Been Hard to Keep
When Hanhart discussed their ideas for creating a non-chronograph version of their most collected watch (the Hanhart 417 ES), we were excited.
When they told us they planned a limited edition of just 150 pieces in a bronze case true to the original case design for the German Armed Forces, we were all in.
All we had to do was keep our mouths shut until now.
Brand New Release With A Vintage Feel
The new Pioneer One Bronze Limited Edition offers a truly vintage look reminiscent of some of the most famous watches in the company's history.
The overall style of this watch was inspired by the Hanhart 417 ES Chronograph, a pilot's watch that was produced with a bronze case in the 1950s for the German Armed Forces. The historic Hanhart logo, the bronze case, and the olive green dial make the Hanhart Pioneer One Bronze Limited Edition unique, and it occupies a very special place within Hanhart's modern collection.
This watch is a limited edition of 150 pieces. The case back is engraved with the limited edition number (XXX/150) and Hanhart's historic "h" logo.
What's So Special About Bronze?
Designing a watch with a bronze case is not as simple as it may seem. As the bronze ages and patinas, the overall look of the watch changes with it. The Hanhart Pioneer One Bronze Limited Edition was designed with that in mind.
The watch case is crafted from CuSn8 bronze, with the exception of the case back which is sandblasted stainless steel. Each watch case will develop its own natural patina over time due to the gradual oxidation of the bronze, adding to the truly special nature of each piece.
The choice of olive green for the dial is an homage to the company's roots in the Black Forest of Germany, but it is also an attractive pairing with the natural patina of bronze.
The DNA of the Hanhart Pioneer One
The Hanhart Pioneer One Series watches offer a healthy dose of Hanhart history with a contemporary case size and other important design elements.
The hands are a direct homage to Hanhart's 417 Chronograph series from the 1950s.
The large crown was also important in early Hanhart designs, allowing the pilot to use the crown while wearing gloves, and that crown is fitted on these watches.
This watch also takes design elements from the very famous Hanhart Calibres 40, 41 and 42 which were originally produced for the Air Force division of the German Armed Forces.
Although these earlier watches all featured chronograph functions, their designs became instantly recognizable as a Hanhart watch, and the new Hanhart Pioneer One Series carries forward this tradition in a three handed watch.
Hanhart has chosen a perfect case size of 42 mm, and the fluted bi-directional rotating bezel with red marking is associated as one of Hanhart's most recognizable design elements.
Other features of this watch include:
- Olive green dial with C3 SuperLuminova
- Fluted friction bezel with red ceramic inlay
- Sapphire crystal
- Solid steel case back with engraved serial number
- Brown vintage calf skin strap with bronze PVD tang buckle
- Water resistant to 100 meters
- Limited edition of 150 pieces
