Thomas Ninchritz has always been fascinated with the regulateur complication - after all, his background is building mechanical clocks of which the regulateur is a key design.
As you may know, the regulateur complication involves modifying the movement such that the hour and minute hands are separated. In this watch, the hours are represented in a circular subdial at 12, while the minutes use a centrally mounted hand. Finally, the seconds display balances the hour display and is positioned at 6.
Thomas Ninchritz is not the first Master Watchmaker to build a regulateur and certainly won't be the last. But we like his design above many others that we have seen for a number of reasons, including his mix of Roman and Arabic numerals, his cleanly designed silver dial with etched patterns and of course what he does to his movements.
Case is in stainless steel and is polished by hand. Black calf leather strap which is attached by screws and features an engraved tang buckle.
Thomas Ninchritz lives in Nuremberg, Germany and the Regulateur features details that you won't find in most other mechanical watches:
- Traditional German 3/4 plate
- Swan neck fine adjustment
- Screwed gold chatons
- Unique Côtes de Genève pattern
- Perlage on inner plates
- Blued screws
- Hand engraved balance cock
- Movement is rhodium plated
It is important to note that Thomas completely finishes and decorates this movement by hand. The process of engraving the balance cock alone can take up to one day, and his attention to detail is immediately noticed on this watch.
We'd also like to point out something we've never seen on a mechanical watch. You may be familiar with the process of Côtes de Genève (Geneva stripes) where the watchmaker typically applies vertical patterns to decorate the movement plates. Thomas has developed his own technique where the patterns are actually circular as can be seen from the photograph above. The result is quite unique and striking.
The Thomas Ninchritz Regulateur is a watch with a rich design and elaborate finish.
