Announcing the flagship case in the Nomos line - the Nomos Zurich with date display and special in-house
We have followed the development of this case with great interest having seen the very first sketches. To say Nomos made a heavy investment to develop the Zurich Date is an understatement.
Hannes Wettstein, the renowned designer from Zürich, Switzerland drew up the plans for the case and his studio actually displayed the watch as part of the exhibition "Neue Raeume” - the leading design show in Switzerland. The case construction is quite intricate consisting of eight parts, and the design is among the most sophisticated that we've seen in a watch.
Here's how Nomos describes this new watch, "large and eye-catching, but neither threatening nor gaudy; of masculine beauty yet anything but pretentious. Instead, Zürich is smart and assertive, tolerant, and considerate. A solid watch that remains discreet despite its size."
This watch is extremely comfortable to wear. The unique lug design hugs the wrist in a way that makes the watch almost mold into your arm.
The dial is striking featuring prominent silver hour markers and silver baton hands.
The Nomos Zurich Date is also special because it was awarded the prestigious Red Dot design award. This award applies to the design of all products and not just watches - in fact, it is quite a feat for a watch to win this award.
The automatically winding movement was designed by Mirko Heyne who explains their use of a strong mainspring and a large balance to obtain a highly accurate rate. Mirko is quoted as saying "The accuracy of the rate is excellent. The deviation is considerably less than one minute a week, a performance on par with the accuracy of a certified chronometer."
Sapphire crystals on front and back.
And last but not least - the strap. Nomos watches use hand stitched straps made from Shell Cordovan. The leather is very smooth, durable, water-resistant and extremely long-lived.
