Product Details

The Eza Vintage 1972 Series has quickly become one of the most popular series in the Eza Collection.

This series has a "70s feel" without looking old, and traces its roots to the original dive watch designs that Eza produced in 1972 from their manufacture in Pforzheim, Germany.

Because this series is so popular, we have been working with Eza over the past year to design a very special limited edition watch, and our inspiration came from the year 1972.

What Was Popular in 1972?

1972 was a great year for many things, and not just watch designs.

The music from 1972 ranks as some of the best (Nilsson, Don McLean, Bill Withers, The Hollies, America, Billy Preston, Three Dog Night, and yes, even the first #1 hit for Michael Jackson about a rat).

And the first commercially successful video game, Pong, made its debut in 1972.

Datsun Green
But one thing stands out in particular for that year and that is a color, specifically avocado green.  In 1972, avocado green was on everything, from refrigerators to toasters to stoves to furniture and even on wall to wall shag carpeting.

And cars were not spared - avocado green was a popular option for all major brands, domestic and imports.

So, to create this new limited edition Eza Vintage 1972 watch the dial choice was obvious - avocado green.

50 Years Later

The Eza Vintage 1972 Avocado Green Limited Edition is a modern interpretation of one of Eza's most unique and recognizable dive watches.

The dial is marked "50 Jahriges Jubilaum", which translates to "50th Anniversary."

Only 100 pieces of this watch will be produced.

The 1972 Story

The Eza Vintage 1972 Avocado Green Limited Edition aesthetics remain true to the original Eza dive watch made in 1972 (but with a pop of avocado green), while its modern build ensures a more durable and reliable watch.

This watch features unique applied steel markers with silvered hands.

Several upgraded features bring the watch into the 21st century: the case is now larger at 39.6 mm and is crafted from 316L stainless steel, the domed crystal is now made from sapphire with an interior AR coating, and the bezel inlay is made of scratch-resistant black ceramic.

The case finish is mixed - brushed and polished, and the case back is engraved.  To keep the dial as clean as possible, this watch does not feature a date window, and SuperLuminova has been applied to the hands, dial hour markers, major bezel markers, and bezel numerals for excellent visibility at night.

This watch is water resistant to 200 meters.

Quality Control Testing

The Eza Vintage 1972 Avocado Green Limited Edition undergoes a rigorous set of quality control tests in two countries.

The first set of tests are performed at the atelier in Pforzheim, Germany.  There, the watch undergoes a visual test, a water resistance check, and a final technical check on the movement.  Each watch leaves the atelier with a unique printout of the movement timing and performance, which is adjusted in-house in six positions.

Next, the watch is shipped to Renens, Switzerland, and undergoes one final inspection before packaging and shipment are completed.

Important features of this watch include:
  • Avocado green dial
  • Domed sapphire crystal with interior AR coating
  • Ceramic black bezel inlay
  • SW200-1 movement adjusted in six positions
  • 316L stainless steel case
  • SuperLuminova on hands and hours (glows green)
  • Water resistant to 200 meters
  • Limited to 100 pieces

The Eza Vintage 1972 Avocado Green Limited Edition ships on a black marbled calf leather strap with an Eza buckle and is packaged in a piano black wooden presentation box.

Eza is a German watch brand born in the West German capital of watchmaking and jewelry - Pforzheim.

Pforzheim is a small city in Baden-Wurttemberg, and is not only the home of many German watch brands today but historically was among the most important cities worldwide for the production of mechanical watch movements, cases, and other watch components.

Pforzheim has also been called the "entrance to the Black Forest"  due to its location in southwest Germany. The town is mostly known for its historical jewelry and watchmaking industry, which dates back more than 250 years.

The city bears the name "Goldstadt" (Gold City) in Germany, and today the city hosts a leading German watchmaking school and technical museum where interesting artifacts and machinery from the history of west German watchmaking are on display.

Watches bearing the name Eza were originally manufactured in Pforzheim by local manufacturers, one of the most important of whom was Hermann Becker.  Becker and his family produced watch cases, dials and ebouches, including the in-house calibres 312 and 313.

During the 20th century Eza produced a variety of watches and complications, but were most known for divers watches.  Unfortunately Eza was the victim of the "quartz crisis" as were many other watch and movement companies in Pforzheim - by 1979 all remaining 48 employees lost their jobs.

The modern history of Eza begins in 2016 when master watchmaker Adriaan Trampe wanted to create watches with a vintage look in a modern way.  Adriaan took control of the Eza brand and decided to stick to the original traditions important to the brand - mechanical movements only and assembly in Pforzheim, Germany.

Eza currently offers three primary collections:  AirFighter, Sealander, and Vintage.  WatchBuys is proud to have been selected by Eza as their exclusive North American distributor, and we are pleased to support German watchmaking in Pforzheim.
