"A great retro chronograph"
Verified Owner Comments: The Hanhart Pioneer Mk.1 is a superb watch. It really takes the classic design of the WW2- era Luftwaffe "Fliegerchronograph" and gives it a slight modernization that keeps it contemporary yet true to it's vintage roots.
This is a watch that can be worn for many occasions, as it has some classic design touches that elevate past a simple tool watch. The case and dial have an excellent level of finish and detailing on par with much more expensive watches. The brushing is well done and the knurled bezel with red reference marker is smooth and firm. The watch could be bit slimmer, but it matches the original Caliber 40 of 1938 predecessor.
Small details like the slight downward curvature towards the dial of the second and minute hands to minimize parallax are great touches, and the red accents really pop. The modified Valjoux 7753 movement's monopusher works smoothly and reliably, and the watch runs very accurately. The dial on the whole is very legibly designed. The poire squelette style hands filled with superluminova are easy to pick up against the black background, and their needle tips allow precision time reading.
While modern chronograph designs with 12-hour chrono counters, graduated bezels, and seperated start/stop/reset functions are more technically functional, the classic bicompax style of the Hanhart monopusher Mk.1 just looks great and is more interesting than generic modern pilot chronographs.
Overall, a great watch that I am very pleased with, and I would recommend.
