When you purchase your new Sinn watch from WatchBuys, you'll not only get a finely engineered timepiece with excellent value for money, you'll also benefit from the WatchBuys Sinn Advantage.

WatchBuys Advantage #1

Because we are the official and authorized North American Sinn distributor, your name and watch serial number will be automatically registered in our database for a Sinn manufacturer's limited warranty which we pass through.

This means that should your watch require service during the Sinn manufacturer's limited warranty period, service will be provided by Sinn in Germany when you return your watch to them. This Sinn manufacturer's limited warranty is transferable to subsequent owners as allowed by Sinn.

You are responsible for paying the shipping charges to Sinn, and all repairs that Sinn approves under its warranty are at no charge. Sinn will also pay the return shipping charges to the address you specify.

The Sinn manufacturer's limited warranty period is as follows:
  • Watches in the EZM Series: 3 years
  • Watches marked AR containing inert gas: 3 years
  • Watches in the DIAPAL Series: 5 years
  • All other Sinn models: 2 years

WatchBuys Advantage #2

As an added benefit to those who purchase Sinn watches from WatchBuys, you may choose to have your warranty repairs serviced through our US service center, RGM Watch Service located in Mount Joy, Pennsylvania. This added service saves our clients the time and effort of returning their watches to Germany for repair. This benefit is transferable to subsequent owners who purchase directly from the original registered owner.

Please note that you are responsible for paying shipping and insurance charges for sending your watch to RGM. Once they reach your watch in the service queue they will determine which repairs are covered under Sinn's warranty.

It is important to note that oil-filled quartz Sinn watches must be repaired in Germany (EZM 2, Hydro and UX series). If your watch meets one of these conditions and requires service under warranty, please contact us and we'll provide instructions for shipping the watch to Sinn in Germany.

WatchBuys Advantage #3

Your watch will be repaired at no cost to you other than shipping charges to either Sinn or RGM during the warranty period. Sinn watches purchased through the "grey market" (non-authorized sources) may carry no warranty from Sinn. Sinn watches purchased through authorized overseas retailers are governed by the warranty policies of those dealers and/or Sinn, and typically must be sent to either the overseas dealer or Germany for repair.

WatchBuys Advantage #4

You'll be wearing your new Sinn watch soon after your order is placed since we stock Sinn watches and ship free using FedEx Air. Plus, since we are located in the United States, there are no "hidden charges" for shipments to US residents as is the case with most overseas dealers. Such charges can add up to 15% to the cost of your new watch, and include credit card surcharges, foreign exchange credit card bank fees, import duties and taxes, and custom's broker charges.

WatchBuys Advantage #5

WatchBuys offers a comprehensive return policy with no restocking fees to US residents. Overseas dealers, including those involved in the grey market, typically don't offer a return policy, and if they do, returning a watch under the policy is both complicated and expensive due to import/export and custom's requirements. Restocking fees are also common and may range up to 15%.

Learn more about our return policies.

WatchBuys Advantage #6

WatchBuys is pleased to accept payments through PayPal, debit and credit cards. We charge no surcharges to use credit or debit cards, and because we are based in the United States your US card is charged in US dollars with no conversion or exchange rate fees.

We also accept payments from PayPal and charge no surcharges.

Please note that to pay by credit card, debit card or PayPal your account and/or card must be issued by US or Canadian financial institution and billed to a confirmed US or Canadian address.

WatchBuys Advantage #7

When you purchase your new Sinn watch from WatchBuys, you'll earn WatchPoint Rewards which accumulate and may be redeemed against future purchases.

Beautiful Watch

"Beautiful Watch"

Verified Owner Comments: Received watch in 3 days as promised. Purchase was extremely smooth and non-eventful. Looking forward to next purchase from Watchbuys. Looking for H-bracelet for watch

Nice Watch

"Nice Watch"

Verified Owner Comments: Very nice watch, perfect size for my 6 3/4” wrist. Two weeks on the wrist and gaining about 4 seconds a day. White stitched leather strap that came with the watch was immediately replaced with a nice silicone strap. That’s more appropriate for a screw down crown, 200 meter water resistant tool watch.

best version of the classiest watch in the lineup

"best version of the classiest watch in the lineup"

Verified Owner Comments: The Sinn 556 is thin, it's a wearable size for those with average wrists and below, and just an excellent timepiece at the pricepoint. This also happens to be the best version released to date — the arabic numerals and red second hand make an already very legible dial that much easier to read at a glance.

The WatchBuys experience was excellent as well, with a personal touch from Kevin and the whole team, which was a comforting addition when you're laying out this much money sight unseen over the web.

Nice watch, crunchy movement

"Nice watch, crunchy movement"

Verified Owner Comments: Watchbuys process was very good and the customer service confirmation call was very a nice touch. I love the way the 556a red edition looks and feels. The attention to detail is nice. However, over the last couple of weeks the few times I've manually wound the watch, when I attempt to screw down the crown, it is clicky and crunchy. By comparison my Seiko NH35A movement is far smoother when you manual wind and screw down the crown. I expected more from this brand and model, even being the lowest entry price into Sinn. I'm beginning to feel that either the Sinn movement is just not refined, or I was given a poorly working unit which does not operate smoothly. I have been very careful with my operation, even reading both the included manuals as well as those on the sinn site. If it continues I will most likely need to send in for some kind of warranty service and will just avoid Sinn watches in the future. I like to procure items that require low maintenance, any warranty work voids tha... - more details

the understated says more

"the understated says more"

Verified Owner Comments: i've wanted the 556 'A' for some time and was pleased it is available again. that it wasn't paired with a bracelet was my only misgiving. but a fine watch is not a purchase that one accepts compromise to be a part of. so i ordered the sinn bracelet and it's perfect.

The size is perfect in an age of desktop clocks being strapped to many wrists. the red seconds hand really looks sharp. and though the 'A' is not as popular as the 'I' the low wide numerals remind me of the 'elf' f-1 racing fuel logo i've loved since childhood. simple, understated, classy.

This put my Audemars Piguet in the drawer

"This put my Audemars Piguet in the drawer"

Verified Owner Comments: I could not be happier with this purchase. I was wearing my AP Royal Oak as my everyday watch, the 556A Red has taken over that spot.

Better than chronometer accuracy (+3.5 sec/day), and perfect size for my 6.75 inch wrist. The dial is very legible (one of my main motivators for purchase) without the watch being too big, and the simplicity is timeless. I chose the red seconds hand over the white, I'm glad I did. It really pops, and adds to the legibility. I'm waiting to get the silicone strap for this as it's currently sold out, but I've been wearing it with an assortment of different NATO straps.

It's actually a very cool look that I may stick with for a while. As my with all my watches, I never take them off (shower, pool, ocean, daytime, nighttime). The looks good with casual and formal attire. Sporty Swiss quality without the price tag.

Well done!

I love my Sinn 556A Red Special Edition

"I love my Sinn 556A Red Special Edition"

Verified Owner Comments: I was attracted to this watch when received WatchBuys notification that the price of Sinn watches were going to increase. Earlier this year I bought my first Sinn watch a limited edition 103 Sa B E that I love. I was attracted to the simplicity and size of the 556A, and I have not been disappointed.

I love the watch. it has been a long time since I have a watch that is this small, and I love the way it wears and looks. The quality and build of the watch is excellent. The simple design is very compelling. It is easy to read, and it has all the information that I want from a daily wearer. I is a casual watch, and it also dresses up very well.

WatchBuys service was terrific.

Great Every Day Watch

"Great Every Day Watch"

Verified Owner Comments: I spent years buying and trading watches. I had a 566 before and traded for something else. I finallly bought the 556A again. Nice watch. Perfect size. German engineering. Perfect for every day wear. Super value for the price.

Watchbuys are great to do business with.

Sinn 556 A Red Edition

"Sinn 556 A Red Edition"

Verified Owner Comments: Ok love the watch , it’s sits a little small on my wrist but it compliments when i wear a dress shirt . It sits right under my cuff. I’ve gotten compliments on the piece wish is cool didn’t think anyone would notice. Im not a watch expert at all , but it seems the watch is well made and will last me long time. Now on to the bad. I haven’t really worn the watch much because the band is too small. I’m only able to go to the first hole . Second hole to tight, what to do dying to make it my everyday watch but can’t. Been meaning to call WatchBuys, just haven’t had time. Hopefully they have solution. It’s not a cheap watch not use.

Beautiful tool watch

"Beautiful tool watch"

Verified Owner Comments: This is my first Sinn watch and I love every aspect of it, from the perfectly legible dial to the rock solid construction, from the nice red second hand to the sapphire crystal case back and the 200m water resistance.

A very high quality watch at a very affordable price.

Great all-around watch

"Great all-around watch"

Verified Owner Comments: I've owned a few 556, but I really love the 556A with red seconds hand. It's the perfect all-around watch. I'm not a fan of the matte finish on many of the other Sinn models, but this one really suits me well.

Sinn 556a Red Second

"Sinn 556a Red Second"

Verified Owner Comments: I was drawn to the simplicity of the 556a for a few years before purchasing, but I was instantly hooked when I eventually noticed that a red second hand option was available. Watch: High legibility, large and symmetrical 12, 3, 6, 9 hour numerals, thick minute and hour markers, discrete date window, wide handset, matte black dial with the final accent of the red second. The classic case with drilled lugs are lovely too. The luminous material is dimmer and of shorter duration than my 857, and EZM13. The dial needed to be replaced, but Sinn replaced it and WB conveniently arranged a local watchmaker to install it under warranty.

WB Experience: Knowledgeable, polite, organized, without any rush

Sinn 556A SE

"Sinn 556A SE"

Verified Owner Comments: Beautiful, accurate timepiece. Bought this to wear while my Submariner is in for service. Accuracy is impressive for a non-COSC watch. Have been tracking accuracy since FEB 17th and so far it gains an average of 2.4 secs per day.

I would recommend it without hesitation.

Bought a grail watch without knowing it.

"Bought a grail watch without knowing it."

Verified Owner Comments: This watch is amazing. The dial readability in my opinion can not be surpassed. The Red second hand gives it a very nice accent and it helps time things under a minute, since you know what is seconds and what is hours and minutes at a glance. I also went for the 556A version due to the black mat finish of the dial which is the same finish as the black parts of the hands. This gives the sensation of the hands floating over the dial which does not happen with the 556 I version.

The movement is beautifully decorated with blued screws and Côtes de Genève on a golden roto with the Sinn logo . Mine runs +1.9 sec/day which is incredible.

Also doing business with WatchBuys is a pleasure.

Great everyday watch!

"Great everyday watch!"

Verified Owner Comments: Love the material, construction and simplicity of the watch. Looks great. Will be wearing it as an everyday watch. Can dress up or down with different straps. Red second hand makes a subtle but big difference in the look of the watch.

Very happy with the purchase and the purchasing experience.

Great Fit For My Smaller Wrist

"Great Fit For My Smaller Wrist"

Verified Owner Comments: I also have the 556i. The Sinn 556A Red Special Edition has a bit of more utilitarian look due to the numerals and the black matte dial.

Although having a diameter of 38.5 mm. this watch appears a bit larger than the 556i due to the numerals I believe. The red second hand is a nice touch. I think that this watch works in about any situation including dress.

Great Everyday watch

"Great Everyday watch"

Verified Owner Comments: I chose my Sinn Special edition 556 A with red second hand, due to its simple elegance and rugged construction. The second hand really pops and is easily read. The lumi glow numerals are a bonus as well.

I had looked at this watch and had decided it was the best option for my budget. Since its initial wind and wear. It has keep impeccable time with out any loss +\- . I'm glad I purchased this excellent watch and recommend others to do the same.

Thanks Watch buys

Sinn watches feature a number of cutting edge technologies, many of which are unique to Sinn. Please note that not all Sinn watches, including the watch on this page, use all of these Sinn technologies.

Among the more notable Sinn technologies are:

Tegimented Hardened Cases

Many Sinn watches are fitted with Tegimented cases produced in-house by Sinn's case making affiliated company in Glashutte, Germany.

Standard steel used by most watch companies has a hardness of between 200 and 240 HV (Hardness Vickers is a common scale used to measure material hardness). The Tegiment process produces a hardness of at least 1,200 Vickers which is five times harder than standard steel (and on some Sinn models up to nine times harder than standard steel).

The Tegiment process is not a coating consisting of a foreign material; instead the steel itself that has been hardened using a special engineering process that creates a hardened barrier. The base material is a type of stainless steel also used for surgical implants, and the stainless steel resistance to corrosion is further improved by the Tegiment hardening process.

The primary advantages to a Tegimented case are extreme resistance to scratches and other case abrasions, as well as increased resistance to corrosion.

Please note that certain Sinn watches are fully Tegimented (case, bezel) while others are Tegimented only on the bezel. Use the links below to view both categories.

  • View Sinn watches with fully Tegimented cases.

  • View Sinn watches with Tegimented bezels only.

Dehumidification Technology

A number of Sinn models feature cases filled with inert gas. Sinn has found that filling the case with inert gas can help prevent the introduction of moisture and humidity to the case, as well as provide a more stable environment for the oils that lubricate the movement.

The proper care of any mechanical watch movement mandates that these oils maintain both their viscosity and lubrication properties.

  • View Sinn watches with dehumidification technology.

Copper Sulphate Capsules

A number Sinn models use one or more copper sulphate capsules to absorb humidity trapped inside the case. Over time these capsules will gradually turn dark blue indicating that humidity has been absorbed.

The primary benefit to these copper sulphate capsules is a more dry and stable environment for both the movement and the lubricating oils. Together with Sinn's inert gas treatment these capsules form the basis of Sinn's Dry Hold Technology.

This technology not only provides a more stable environment for the movement, but also prevents fogging of the crystal when going from hot to cold environments or from humid to non-humid conditions (such air conditioned buildings).

Extreme Antimagnetic Protection

Magnetism can cause dramatic swings in the timekeeping of a mechanical watch movement. People are often exposed to magnetic fields without even being aware - frequent high altitude flying, metal detectors, audio and video equipment, medical equipment and computer equipment can all cause problems with magnetism.

Many Sinn watches offer extreme protection against magnetism up to 80,000 A/m. Sinn achieves these results using a number of different technologies, including special case and case back construction, soft iron components in the case and protective rings surrounding the movement.

  • View Sinn watches with extreme antimagnetic protection.

DIAPAL Oil Free Escapement

Sinn caused quite a stir when they first released their DIAPAL technology. Beginning in 1995, Sinn began work to create an oil free escapement. With any mechanical watch movement, the aging of oil, especially in the escapement can create long term problems for that movement. Additionally, as movement oil ages, required service intervals become more frequent.

Sinn's early analysis to this problem provided a quick solution (at least in theory) - if you don't use oil, it can't age. The process began by exchanging the ruby escapements for diamonds (the word "DIAPAL" derives from the German name for diamond escapements) in order to achieve the desired effect. The designation stuck, even though today Sinn works with solutions taken from advanced nanotechnology rather than diamonds.

The result is a movement that proves so reliable that Sinn offers an unprecedented five year warranty on their DIAPAL watches.

  • View Sinn watches featuring the DIAPAL oil free escapement.

Hydro Oil Filled Technology

Sinn has developed a technology termed "Hydro" in which the entire watch case is filled with oil. Watches using this technology are based on quartz rather than mechanical movements.

By using this type of movement, Sinn is able to fill the watch with oil, which has the joint affect of greatly enhancing the readability of the dial and time from any angle (including under water), and increasing the water resistance of the watch even at great depths.

  • View Sinn watches with Hydro Oil Filled technology.

Submarine Steel

Sinn has created a line of watches featuring cases made from German submarine steel (the U Series). The steel was procured by Sinn from a steel supplier to Emden GmbH, one of Germany's North Sea shipbuilding yards who construct submarines from the very same steel.

Because of the special steel used from the submarine steelmanufacturer, the case resists the effects of exposure to salt waterand salt water environments.

These cases are produced in-house by Sinn's case making affiliated company in Glashutte, Germany.

This special steel is also amagnetic which means that is does not have magnetic properties and cannot itself become magnetized. The watch movement itself is protected from magnetic fields up to 4,800 A/m.

EZM Mission Timers

Sinn is a partner for manufacturing watches for the German Special Forces, including SWAT, Customs, FBI, helicopter police, GSG9 and other units.

Beginning with the now highly collectible (and valuable) Sinn EZM 1, Sinn has grown this collection to some of the most durable and highly functional watches made and they remain among the most popular in the collection.

  • View Sinn watches in the EZM Series.

TESTAF Certified Pilot's Watches

Lothar Schmidt, Sinn's CEO and owner had long been disturbed by a lack of technical standards for defining a "pilot's watch". As an engineer, Mr. Schmidt was fluent in standards for diver's watches, anti-magnetic watches and the many other technological standards used to manufacture watches.

A widely used reference for standards is DIN, or the Deutsches Institut fr Normung (German Institute for Standardization). Oddly, he discovered there were no DIN standards to cover pilot's watches where such standards existed for example for diver's watches.

The new "Technical Standard for Pilot's Watches" (TESTAF) was developed by the Aachen University of Applied Sciences and establishes the suitability for professional use as a pilot's watch.
