DUW 4301 Calibre "Swing System"
This watch features the Nomos Swing System - a spring and escapement designed and built by Nomos.
The distinctive blue balance spring can be used to identify Nomos watches using the Swing System.
What is the Nomos Swing System?
Nomos has been working on their new escapement for a number of years, featuring an in-house balance spring, anchor and anchor wheel. The new Nomos balance spring was developed together with the German balance spring specialist Carl Haas and is immediately recognizable by its blue color.
All Nomos movements featuring this new swing system will be designated as DUW (Deutsche Uhrenwerke).
Lacquered Teal Green Dial
This model features a handsome lacquered teal green dial with gold colored numerals and inner square pattern.
Other features include a sub-seconds at 6 with gold plated hands and a gold-colored power reserve display between 12 and 1. The Nomos logo is engraved on the crown.
The Power Reserve Complication
The movement begins with a traditional Glashutte 3/4 plate which is rhodium plated and decorated with Glashutte ribbing and Langeleist perlage.
The power reserve module used in this watch is designed and finished in house, and is a very unusual power reserve display. On most watches, the power reserve is indicated by a hand pointing to "Low" or "Full", similar in function to that of a car gas gauge.
The Nomos power reserve shows the amount of wind remaining in the watch through a circular opening in the dial between 12 and 1. When the watch is fully wound, this opening will show the same gold color as the numerals. As the watch winds down, a light green display begins to appear, increasing in size to completely light green as the power depletes.
Next, the ratchet and crown wheels are decorated with traditional Glashutte starburst patterns. Finely blued screws are used throughout, and other features include Triovis fine adjustment in four positions, hack mechanism, Nomos click, and power reserve of 45 hours.
The case is made in a special steel alloy, which is nickel-free, and features a sapphire display back to showcase the DUW 4301 calibre.
