For the First Time - Grade 5 Titanium Case

The new Hanhart 417 Titanium Desert Pilot Limited Edition is a manually wound flyback chronograph featuring a sandblasted Grade 5 titanium case, a first for the Hanhart 417 Chronograph Series.

Until now, watches in the Hanhart 417 Series have always been tagged with an "ES" moniker to indicate edelstahl (stainless steel).

Powering this watch is the manually wound Manufacture AMT® Calibre 5100 M, and the transparent sapphire case back allows for a great view of this attractive movement.

The limited edition number (XXX/200) can also be found on the case back of each piece.

Durable and Dependable

While this watch looks historic, it benefits from state of the art watchmaking and 21st century materials like Grade 5 Titanium and a domed sapphire crystal.  It is even more durable and dependable than its predecessors.
Titanium Case and Domed Sapphire Crystal

The original Hanhart 417 ES Chronograph featured domed Plexiglas, as was common for the era.  This watch has been upgraded to a domed sapphire crystal with interior anti-reflective coating.

Hanhart has chosen to use the vintage Hanhart logo on the sand colored dial, the crown, and the buckle of this new watch.  The "shockproof" and "flyback" designations on the dial are taken directly from the historic design of the original 417 ES Chronograph.

If you look closely, you'll notice that the tips of the specially designed black hands are slightly bent downward to reduce the parallax effect from the domed sapphire crystal.  The hands and hour numerals are coated with SuperLuminova.

True to the DNA of the original 417 ES Chronograph, the fluted bi-directional rotating bezel is still friction fit and features a red indicator.  This bezel, however, is titanium rather than stainless steel.

Hanhart Rally Car at DakarInspired by Desert Rally

Like Hanhart's Primus Pilot Desert Sand, this watch was created to highlight Hanhart's history supporting and timing rally racing.

Rally is an exciting type of motorsport racing which emphasizes individual point-to-point times rather than side-by-side racing and often features off-road courses in extreme environments.

Pictured to the right is German rally driver Stephan Schott's prototype MINI (running a 6-cylinder turbocharged BMW diesel engine) which was emblazoned with Hanhart's logo as it raced through the desert at the famous Dakar Rally.

Manufacture AMT® Calibre 5100 M

The original Hanhart 417 ES Chronograph featured a "Temposchaltung" (flyback complication) with column wheel construction, and Hanhart has been working with Manufacture AMT® to incorporate those same features into this new chronograph.

Powered by the manually wound AMT5100 M, the clearly visible blue column wheel ensures a smooth operation of the chronograph functions, while the flyback complication allows a quick reset while the chronograph hand is in motion.

This new movement beats at 4 Hertz (28,800 vibrations per hour) boasts an impressive 58 hour power reserve.  Since the AMT5100 M is not produced with a date complication, Hanhart adds the date wheel in house.

What is a Flyback Chronograph?

A flyback chronograph is one of the easiest chronographs to operate.  Rather than having to remember to stop the chronograph hand before resetting, the reset button at 4 may be pressed while the chronograph hand is in motion causing that hand to "fly back" to 0.

This function allows continuous operation of the chronograph when timing multiple events, as one push returns the chronograph hand to 0 but does not stop its operation - it simply starts over to time the next event.
Column wheel
Most chronograph watches in production today are cam actuated, using two layers of metal to receive input from the pushers and transmit that input to the clutch.  A column wheel chronograph uses a single part to perform both functions and is often compared to a castle's turret.

The column wheel is more difficult and labor intensive to manufacture than a cam actuated design and requires more skill and patience to complete.

The advantage to a column wheel design is a more precise feel to the operation of the chronograph.

Shock Resistance Technology
Hanhart Shock System
This watch features Hanhart's shock resistance system which is designed to better stabilize and protect the movement.

Hanhart has installed gaskets on the front and back of the movement holding ring which allow the movement to slightly move in the event of a drop, hit, or other shock.

This technology is not dissimilar to the way modern buildings are designed in earthquake prone regions to dampen the effects of those shocks.

Important features of this watch include:
  • Grade 5 titanium 39 mm case, beadblasted
  • Sand colored dial
  • Titanium bi-directional fluted bezel
  • Domed sapphire crystal with interior AR coating
  • Sapphire crystal case back
  • SuperLuminova on hour numerals and hands
  • Two register design
  • Manually winding flyback chronograph movement with column wheel construction
  • Extended power reserve of 58 hours
  • Water resistant to 100 meters
  • Limited edition of 200 pieces

New Rubber Strap - Choice of Black or Sand

The strap Hanhart chose for this watch is not only practical but remarkably comfortable as well.

Made from temperature resistant rubber with an attractive woven texture, this strap features quick release spring bars for easy strap changes and a Grade 5 titanium tang buckle engraved with the Hanhart's historic logo.

You may choose between a black rubber strap or a sand colored rubber strap when placing your deposit.
