A Vintage Look

The Dekla Military Vintage series is inspired by historic watches utilized by the German military in the early 20th century.  The oversized numerals, outer railroad track, and cut-out constant seconds subdial come together for a look that is truly vintage.  The sterling silver ruthenium dial and solid 14K white gold hands complete the classic design.

Additionally, the Dekla Military Vintage Old Radium White Gold features a highly decorated manually wound movement visible through the sapphire case back.  This watch is powered by the famed Unitas 6498-1, a pocket watch movement configured for a wristwatch.  The robust Unitas 6498-1 is a manually winding workhorse featured in a wide variety of mechanical watches due to its simple layout and reliability.

Dekla is a German watch manufacture based in Stuttgart.  They specialize in the the building of watch cases, certain movement parts, watch dials, and the production of hands - all in-house.  Their engineering capabilities and hands-on approach allow them to produce watches with a remarkable attention to detail.

Historic Design

Traditional German military watch designs can be traced back to World War II.  For example, the Luftwaffe implemented strict guidelines for clocks and wristwatches designated for cockpit use, the most important being legibility.  Dark dials were imperative to combat glare from the sun and clouds.

Radium paint was used to add luminescence to the numerals, hands, and markers and allowed for legibility at night as well.  This watch features old radium SuperLuminova.

One of the more prevalent dial designs of the time featured oversized hour numerals and a constant seconds subdial at 6.  This feature was taken directly from the popular pocket watches of the day.

Military watches often utilized a crown with deep ridges to allow for winding while wearing thick leather gloves and the leather straps were often extra long to accommodate a pilot's jacket underneath.
