Owing its origins to the sundial, the single hand watch first appeared as a pocket watch in the 18th century, and has not been produced as a wrist watch since the early 1900's.
The dial is marked in both hour and five minute intervals. To tell the correct time, simply read the correct two digit hour and count the number of five minute markers after the hour to know minutes.
In keeping to its origins as the first mechanical watch design, this watch is made strictly as a manually wound mechanical watch.
Other features include a convex sapphire crystal on the front which produces a slight magnifying effect. Early wrist watches used this type of convex crystal almost exclusively, rather than the flat crystals used on most modern watch designs. The case is in polished stainless steel with a clear display back to reveal the nicely decorated movement. Black calf leather strap with tang buckle.
