Limited Production Model

Over the years the Sinn U1 has become our best selling Sinn watch of all time. It's tough, durable and great for both water diving and desk diving!

But one feature that the standard Sinn U1 does not offer is a fully Tegimented case (the standard Sinn U1 features only a Tegimented bezel).

Because the Tegiment process does such a great job of protecting the watch against scratches and other abrasions, we periodically ask Sinn to produce a limited run of fully Tegimented U1-T watches for us, and new pieces are now in stock.

Please note that this watch does not replace the standard Sinn U1; it is simply a variant of that model that extends the Tegimenting protection for those who have requested this feature.

The Sinn U1-T features the same great case design made in-house from German submarine steel at Sinn's case making facility in Glashutte, Germany. Once the case is complete, the Tegimenting process begins, and when we say "fully Tegimented" we mean what we say - case, crown, bezel, case back, the bracelet and even the anti-reflective coating.

The combination of the submarine steel and fully Tegimented case create superior scratch and corrosion resistance - in fact the case is up to eight times harder than standard stainless steel watch cases.

And unlike watches made in stainless steel, this watch does not need to be rinsed with tap water with each exposure to a salt water environment.

In summary, the Sinn U1-T is one tough watch that is designed to both last and look great over time.

The Sinn U1-T case is made from the same steel that is also used in the construction of the outer hull of submarines. The steel was procured by Sinn from a steel supplier to Emden GmbH, one of Germanys North Sea shipbuilding yards who construct submarines from the very same steel.

This special steel is also amagnetic which means that is does not have magnetic properties and cannot itself become magnetized. The watch movement itself is protected from magnetic fields up to 4,800 A/m.

Because of the special steel used from the submarine steel manufacturer, the case resists the effects of exposure to salt water and salt water environments. And the fully Tegimented finish protects the case from scratches and abrasions by actually hardening the steel.

The uni-directional ratchet operated rotating bezel is also milled from this submarine steel and is Tegimented. The indices are machined directly into the bezel without the use of bezel inserts, which can corrode or come loose at deep depths.

The international testing lab of Germanischen Lloyd has tested the Sinn U1-T, and determined that the watch can be certified as water resistant to 1,000 meters. This same firm tests submarines for their ability to withstand the effects of underwater use.

Matte black dial with date at 3, Super Luminova on hands and markers, and striking red seconds hand complete the design.

Other features include sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, and metal stainless steel bracelet which is also hardened using the Tegiment process.

When you purchase your new Sinn watch from WatchBuys, you'll not only get a finely engineered timepiece with excellent value for money, you'll also benefit from the WatchBuys Sinn Advantage.

WatchBuys Advantage #1

Because we are the official and authorized North American Sinn distributor, your name and watch serial number will be automatically registered in our database for a Sinn manufacturer's limited warranty which we pass through.

This means that should your watch require service during the Sinn manufacturer's limited warranty period, service will be provided by Sinn in Germany when you return your watch to them. This Sinn manufacturer's limited warranty is transferable to subsequent owners as allowed by Sinn.

You are responsible for paying the shipping charges to Sinn, and all repairs that Sinn approves under its warranty are at no charge. Sinn will also pay the return shipping charges to the address you specify.

The Sinn manufacturer's limited warranty period is as follows:
  • Watches in the EZM Series: 3 years
  • Watches marked AR containing inert gas: 3 years
  • Watches in the DIAPAL Series: 5 years
  • All other Sinn models: 2 years

WatchBuys Advantage #2

As an added benefit to those who purchase Sinn watches from WatchBuys, you may choose to have your warranty repairs serviced through our US service center, RGM Watch Service located in Mount Joy, Pennsylvania. This added service saves our clients the time and effort of returning their watches to Germany for repair. This benefit is transferable to subsequent owners who purchase directly from the original registered owner.

Please note that you are responsible for paying shipping and insurance charges for sending your watch to RGM. Once they reach your watch in the service queue they will determine which repairs are covered under Sinn's warranty.

It is important to note that oil-filled quartz Sinn watches must be repaired in Germany (EZM 2, Hydro and UX series). If your watch meets one of these conditions and requires service under warranty, please contact us and we'll provide instructions for shipping the watch to Sinn in Germany.

WatchBuys Advantage #3

Your watch will be repaired at no cost to you other than shipping charges to either Sinn or RGM during the warranty period. Sinn watches purchased through the "grey market" (non-authorized sources) may carry no warranty from Sinn. Sinn watches purchased through authorized overseas retailers are governed by the warranty policies of those dealers and/or Sinn, and typically must be sent to either the overseas dealer or Germany for repair.

WatchBuys Advantage #4

You'll be wearing your new Sinn watch soon after your order is placed since we stock Sinn watches and ship free using FedEx Air. Plus, since we are located in the United States, there are no "hidden charges" for shipments to US residents as is the case with most overseas dealers. Such charges can add up to 15% to the cost of your new watch, and include credit card surcharges, foreign exchange credit card bank fees, import duties and taxes, and custom's broker charges.

WatchBuys Advantage #5

WatchBuys offers a comprehensive return policy with no restocking fees to US residents. Overseas dealers, including those involved in the grey market, typically don't offer a return policy, and if they do, returning a watch under the policy is both complicated and expensive due to import/export and custom's requirements. Restocking fees are also common and may range up to 15%.

Learn more about our return policies.

WatchBuys Advantage #6

WatchBuys is pleased to accept payments through PayPal, debit and credit cards. We charge no surcharges to use credit or debit cards, and because we are based in the United States your US card is charged in US dollars with no conversion or exchange rate fees.

We also accept payments from PayPal and charge no surcharges.

Please note that to pay by credit card, debit card or PayPal your account and/or card must be issued by US or Canadian financial institution and billed to a confirmed US or Canadian address.

WatchBuys Advantage #7

When you purchase your new Sinn watch from WatchBuys, you'll earn WatchPoint Rewards which accumulate and may be redeemed against future purchases.

Awesome Watch!

"Awesome Watch!"

Comments about this watch: Watch is very nice looking. Very comfortable to wear. I really like the offset crown. Have several watches with the crown on the center and they really dig into my wrist. With the silicone strap it is not heavy at all. Definitely a watch that I will wear everyday.

The staff at Watchbuys is very knowledgeable and the service is really great!

Comments about this watch: I was a little worried when I ordered this watch that it might be too large for me, as I had not seen one in person. I loved the looks in pictures, and had heard people say it wears small for a 44 mm watch. All of my favorite watches are 39 and 42mm cases. This watch fits my 6.5" wrist very well. I liked the watch more in person than I did in the pictures. I was a little worried about the beadblasted finish on the bracelet, as I have many beadblasted tools and the finish never seems to stay looking good for long. I tend to get a lot of scratches on the underside of bracelets, specifically on the clasp, as I sit at a desk most of the day working on a computer. So far after wearing literally every day for the last 3 weeks or so, no hint of a scratch. The watch looks like new. The watch came with some tools to size and change the bracelet, and both of these were easy to do. The watch is heavy, and feels very substantial on the wrist. I like that, some may not. I have many watches that... - more details

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this watch to anyone!

Comments about this watch: Buying from watchbuys website was like shopping from amazon with 5 star customer service. now about the watch, this is the best entry level luxury watch that your money can buy. I researched a lot of watches swiss, japan, us and everyone was either selling stainless steel quartz or ugly looking watches. I did research on numerous website which led me to Sinn. They are a quality watch maker and their components and materials used in their watch is very high quality. They make one of the worlds best diving watch. The best part of the U1 -T watch is their tegmented steel which sets it apart from all the other watches. the color of the steel is not like regular steel and people do look at your watch. This watch is very comfortable and keeps time very well. usually within seconds loss in a month which is really good for the price. I wear this to work and all casual outdoor events and looks good on all occasions. I really love this watch. this is my first luxury buy and I'm totally blown... - more details

Comments about this watch: An extremely well engineered watch. simple in concept and a pleasure to wear. Very pleased to have acquired it. The tegimented bezel has a lovely soft touch. It is a bit of a standout compared with anything else with it's "Lego " face format. Which I must say does draw attention.Yes it has that "different"quality about it which appeals to me.

Great Watch; even cooler in person

Comments about this watch: This is a great watch.

It is built like a tank but even at 44 mm is not too big. If anything it wears smaller than the size. Removing links from the band is quite easy. Looks great and even better in person. Somehow, the simplicity of the watch face and the durability of the case and bracelet make this a very pleasant everyday watch. Also, the all tegimented version due to the unique look that you don't see a many other watches.

Comments about this watch: I love this this watch.

It's my go to watch when I need a grab and go. It's also one of my daily wearers for work.

Since it's fully tegimented, I don't worry about accidentally bumping it. It's easy to read and has a no non-sense dial. This is my fifth U1-T. I sell them but just can't live without one. It's the one Sinn watch that any Sinn owner should have in their collection.

"NOT built like a tank... please read on!"

Comments about this watch: I have heard the phrase "Built like a Tank" brandished by some in other watch reviews. The Sinn U1 is not built like a tank... it is built like a Jagdpanther. You see, this is the tank that hunted other tanks. This is the tank that laughed at your tank and it's puny little gun. I know this analogy seems a bit argumentum ad absurdum, but bear with me... Not all tanks are created equal, and the same applies to "tool watches". The U1 is pleasingly heavy, deliberately solid.. In fact, the bracelet reminds me of a… tank track. If you want jewelry on your arm, look elsewhere.   I own Omega, Tag and others, and they are fine for their intended purpose. I bought this Sinn to use daily as a work watch that takes me from meetings to construction sites, and at times subjects a watch to some serious abuse. I don't have to worry about my U1. It has a physical and visual weight that is reassuring- it is different with no apologies. After bangs and scrapes that would have sent my others in... - more details

Comments about this watch: Couldn't be happier.

Excellent watch that met every expectation I had regarding construction and "wearability". Lighter than expected and wears smaller than a watch of this size.

Excellent service from WatchBuys and Sinn provided extra titanium spring bars at no charge after a simple email!

Comments about this watch: Loved my first u1 from Watchbuys so much, had to order the fully tegimented version and I'm not disappointed.

This one is slightly darker in color, love it's looks. Keeping spot on timing, plus 2 seconds per day or less.

I switch back snd forth between u1's and all my other timepieces just sit. This is also the only watch I've owned where I have received comments....about it's uniqueness and attractiveness.

Bottom line, if you are on the fence regarding purchasing the U1, just do it.

Forgot to add, exemplary service and follow up from Watchbuys.

Comments about this watch: The Sinn U1-T is all I hoped it would be: obvious build quality; well thought out design/features; German precision; an easy to use tool.

And it is several things I did not expect: very easy to wear for a 44mm, thick watch (I have average to smallish wrists yet it does not seem clunky or too heavy); and stylish in a manly way, sort of in a "so ugly it's beautiful" way. Let's face it, the dial is a face only a mother could love, and yet it makes the watch so distinctive, and so easy to read, it ends up capturing your heart.

Watchbuys throughout the purchase process demonstrated their commitment to customer SERVICE, too often these days a lost art.

Very happy to have the Sinn U1-T to add to my ancient Rolex, several Panarais and a Chronoswiss Ghost...all of which may now prove redundant as I wear the Sinn as my everyday watch.

Comments about this watch: I love this watch. It sits proudly with my collection of Rolex's, Patek's, AP's, etc. It is comfortable, heavy (210 grams with the steel bracelet), easy to read the time (The date is not so easy to see), and comfortable.

I have relatively small wrists but the watch looks great. It wears small for its size.

Best of all, it is built better than a brick s house. One watch I truly am not afraid to wear in the shower, ocean, or out on Saturday night.

Thomas M.

Comments about this watch: I must say I'm very impressed in this Sinn U1-T, especially considering it's relatively low price compared to some of the other watches I've owned.

It features great steel, crystal with AR coating, a great bracelet and a vey accurate movement.

I couldn't ask for more for the money!

Sinn Workhorse

Comments about this watch: The Sinn U1 is a classic 'tool' watch something for everyday use that you can thrash with relative impunity, yet that still manages to look clean and well designed. It has an uncomplicated and easily legible dial, albeit with the ugliest hands and indices in the known universe. At 44x14mm it wears very comfortably, owing largely to the smooth and slightly concave back and 4:00 crown. I have a 6.75" wrist, and find neither the size nor the heft at all uncomfortable. It has a reassuringly solid feel, and the fit and finish are suitably Teutonic and very crisp. While the U1 won't win any beauty contests, I quite like the grey, satin finish of the case, particularly against the black dial. Another pleasing aspect of the austere design is that the watch looks equally good on a bracelet, NATO/Zulu, leather, or silicone strap. I currently have mine mounted on a Kain Heritage black leather strap with grey stitching, and it looks splendid. Sinn makes much of the HY-100 'u-bootstahl' from which ... - more details

Super tough and it looks even better on the wrist than it does in pictures!

A Fit-for-Purpose Tool Diver

Comments about this watch: Sinn watches are about application of technology to achieve a functional goal. This watch is all about the surface hardness, corrosion resistance of its materials of construction with a clear, communicative dial.

The Sinn U1-T is a simple, rugged variant of a well regarded tool watch. The design of the U1 is a classic Bauhaus style watch with functional, fit-for-purpose diving features. For example, the chromatic red indices on the bezel will look gray due to wavelength filtration >15' (5 m) beneath the surface leaving the essential markings (last 15 minutes) in black to stand out.

Comments about this watch: I just like everything about this watch.

The fit, feel and overall look does it for me. It is extremely well built and can be used for casual or dressed occasions. I have had plenty of compliments on this watch and would definitely recommend it to anyone.

Kudos to Sinn on this one!

Comments about this watch: This is an amazing watch.

A little on the hefty side but that doesn't detract from its character. When you wear it you feel it and others generally notice it. If the calender were perpetual you could probably wear it until the end of time.

I encourage people to NOT buy the fully tegimented U1 to keep resale and collector value high.

Outstanding Instrument!

Comments about this watch: I recently added the Sinn U1-T to my collection and could not be happier.

Initially I was unsure the Bauhaus inspired styling would be to my liking, but in short order it has grown on me. The metal work quality and fit and finish is outstanding; as good as any in my collection including my Rolex and Breitlings.

The service I received from WatchBuys was outstanding. The watch was in my hands in Calgary, Canada less than 18 hours after the order. I will certainly purchase from them in the future.

Comments about this watch: All I can say is, Love it Love it Love it

Love the darker gray color and how everything matches, bracelet, bezel, case etc. They also have placed the Tegimented symbol on the case, case back, and clasp.

I would buy one ASAP before there all gone.

Sinn watches feature a number of cutting edge technologies, many of which are unique to Sinn. Please note that not all Sinn watches, including the watch on this page, use all of these Sinn technologies.

Among the more notable Sinn technologies are:

Tegimented Hardened Cases

Many Sinn watches are fitted with Tegimented cases produced in-house by Sinn's case making affiliated company in Glashutte, Germany.

Standard steel used by most watch companies has a hardness of between 200 and 240 HV (Hardness Vickers is a common scale used to measure material hardness). The Tegiment process produces a hardness of at least 1,200 Vickers which is five times harder than standard steel (and on some Sinn models up to nine times harder than standard steel).

The Tegiment process is not a coating consisting of a foreign material; instead the steel itself that has been hardened using a special engineering process that creates a hardened barrier. The base material is a type of stainless steel also used for surgical implants, and the stainless steel resistance to corrosion is further improved by the Tegiment hardening process.

The primary advantages to a Tegimented case are extreme resistance to scratches and other case abrasions, as well as increased resistance to corrosion.

Please note that certain Sinn watches are fully Tegimented (case, bezel) while others are Tegimented only on the bezel. Use the links below to view both categories.

  • View Sinn watches with fully Tegimented cases.

  • View Sinn watches with Tegimented bezels only.

Dehumidification Technology

A number of Sinn models feature cases filled with inert gas. Sinn has found that filling the case with inert gas can help prevent the introduction of moisture and humidity to the case, as well as provide a more stable environment for the oils that lubricate the movement.

The proper care of any mechanical watch movement mandates that these oils maintain both their viscosity and lubrication properties.

  • View Sinn watches with dehumidification technology.

Copper Sulphate Capsules

A number Sinn models use one or more copper sulphate capsules to absorb humidity trapped inside the case. Over time these capsules will gradually turn dark blue indicating that humidity has been absorbed.

The primary benefit to these copper sulphate capsules is a more dry and stable environment for both the movement and the lubricating oils. Together with Sinn's inert gas treatment these capsules form the basis of Sinn's Dry Hold Technology.

This technology not only provides a more stable environment for the movement, but also prevents fogging of the crystal when going from hot to cold environments or from humid to non-humid conditions (such air conditioned buildings).

  • View Sinn watches with copper sulphate capsules.

Extreme Antimagnetic Protection

Magnetism can cause dramatic swings in the timekeeping of a mechanical watch movement. People are often exposed to magnetic fields without even being aware - frequent high altitude flying, metal detectors, audio and video equipment, medical equipment and computer equipment can all cause problems with magnetism.

Many Sinn watches offer extreme protection against magnetism up to 80,000 A/m. Sinn achieves these results using a number of different technologies, including special case and case back construction, soft iron components in the case and protective rings surrounding the movement.

  • View Sinn watches with extreme antimagnetic protection.

DIAPAL Oil Free Escapement

Sinn caused quite a stir when they first released their DIAPAL technology. Beginning in 1995, Sinn began work to create an oil free escapement. With any mechanical watch movement, the aging of oil, especially in the escapement can create long term problems for that movement. Additionally, as movement oil ages, required service intervals become more frequent.

Sinn's early analysis to this problem provided a quick solution (at least in theory) - if you don't use oil, it can't age. The process began by exchanging the ruby escapements for diamonds (the word "DIAPAL" derives from the German name for diamond escapements) in order to achieve the desired effect. The designation stuck, even though today Sinn works with solutions taken from advanced nanotechnology rather than diamonds.

The result is a movement that proves so reliable that Sinn offers an unprecedented five year warranty on their DIAPAL watches.

  • View Sinn watches featuring the DIAPAL oil free escapement.

Hydro Oil Filled Technology

Sinn has developed a technology termed "Hydro" in which the entire watch case is filled with oil. Watches using this technology are based on quartz rather than mechanical movements.

By using this type of movement, Sinn is able to fill the watch with oil, which has the joint affect of greatly enhancing the readability of the dial and time from any angle (including under water), and increasing the water resistance of the watch even at great depths.

  • View Sinn watches with Hydro Oil Filled technology.

Submarine Steel

Sinn has created a line of watches featuring cases made from German submarine steel (the U Series). The steel was procured by Sinn from a steel supplier to Emden GmbH, one of Germany's North Sea shipbuilding yards who construct submarines from the very same steel.

Because of the special steel used from the submarine steelmanufacturer, the case resists the effects of exposure to salt waterand salt water environments.

These cases are produced in-house by Sinn's case making affiliated company in Glashutte, Germany.

This special steel is also amagnetic which means that is does not have magnetic properties and cannot itself become magnetized. The watch movement itself is protected from magnetic fields up to 4,800 A/m.

  • View Sinn watches built from German submarine steel.

EZM Mission Timers

Sinn is a partner for manufacturing watches for the German Special Forces, including SWAT, Customs, FBI, helicopter police, GSG9 and other units.

Beginning with the now highly collectible (and valuable) Sinn EZM 1, Sinn has grown this collection to some of the most durable and highly functional watches made and they remain among the most popular in the collection.

  • View Sinn watches in the EZM Series.

TESTAF Certified Pilot's Watches

Lothar Schmidt, Sinn's CEO and owner had long been disturbed by a lack of technical standards for defining a "pilot's watch". As an engineer, Mr. Schmidt was fluent in standards for diver's watches, anti-magnetic watches and the many other technological standards used to manufacture watches.

A widely used reference for standards is DIN, or the Deutsches Institut fr Normung (German Institute for Standardization). Oddly, he discovered there were no DIN standards to cover pilot's watches where such standards existed for example for diver's watches.

The new "Technical Standard for Pilot's Watches" (TESTAF) was developed by the Aachen University of Applied Sciences and establishes the suitability for professional use as a pilot's watch.
