Product Details

The Sinn 900 Flieger Chronograph is a variation of the popular Sinn 900 Instrument Chronograph, and features many of the advanced technologies pioneered in that watch.  The differences lie primarily in the dial, hands and markings, which are of a traditional pilot's watch rather than an instrument watch.

This watch represents the largest pilot's chronograph that the company has created - Sinn calls this model "Der große Fliegerchronograph" with a case diameter of 44 mm.

The Dial and Functions

The dial is black galvanized, with clean, bold white hour markers.  This watch also offers excellent visibility at night through the use of luminous hands and markers.

The Sinn 900 Flieger Chronograph is a dual time zone chronograph, featuring two registers, sweep seconds, date and second time zone indications.Unlike most other Sinn dual time chronographs, this watch shows the second time zone as a 24 hour zone rather than 12, making calculations with AM and PM simple.

This watch also features a rotating inner bezel activated through a crown at 10.  This bezel is marked in minutes, and may be used to measure elapsed time for an event.

Tegiment Technology

This watch features Sinn's "Tegiment" technology.  Standard steel used by most watch companies has a hardness of between 200 and 240 HV (Hardness Vickers is a common scale used to measure material hardness). The Tegiment layer has a hardness of 1,800 Vickers which is nine times harder than standard steel.

The Tegiment layer is not a coating consisting of a foreign material, instead the steel itself that has been hardened using a special engineering process that creates a hardened barrier. The base material is a type of stainless steel also used for surgical implants, and the stainless steel resistance to corrosion is even further improved by the Tegiment hardening process.

Magnetic Field Protection

Next, this case offers magnetic field protection of up to 80,000 A/m, among the highest for any mechanical watch.  Magnetism can cause dramatic swings in the timekeeping of a mechanical watch movement.  People are often exposed to magnetic fields without even knowing so – frequent high altitude flying, metal detectors, audio and video equipment, medical equipment and computer equipment to name a few.

Dry Hold Technology

Last but not least a dehumidifying capsule absorbs unavoidable diffused atmospheric moisture within the watch, thus slowing down the ageing process of the movement inside. A second advantage is that condensation does not appear underneath the crystal, even in very humid weather conditions. The dehumidifying capsule turns various shades of blue according to its degree of saturation, displayed through a small sapphire crystal window.

Screw-down crown. Crown and chronograph pushers are sealed and protected by a specific material used in chemical vacuum technology.

Sand-blasted stainless steel Tegiment case with solid case back. Sapphire crystal with luminous hands and hour markers. Watch is water resistant to 20 ATM.  Tegimented bracelet.

Warranty Changes and New Features

Please note that effective September 1, 2011 Sinn increased the warranty on this watch from 2 years to 3 years. Watches purchased before that date remain at 2 years.

The reason for this change is that Sinn is now adding their Dehumidifcation Technology to this watch through the use of inert gas to reduce humidity and to prevent the dial from fogging.

"Sinn 9000 - Solid Integrity"

Posted by: Rich

Comments about this watch: This is a solid, beefy watch. Since there is no bezel it reads quite large. The bracelet is bomb-proof; what other watch requires hex screws to join the solid increments? So far, an excellent timekeeper and, after 4 months - no scratches of any kind. I've crossed the country twice now with stops in between so setting the UTC function is important and operates smoothly. All in all ,typical Sinn build quality with more features and integrity than, say an Omega Planet Ocean Chronograph IMHO. And ni... - more details
