At first glance, the Nomos watches Tangomat and Tangomat Date appear to simply be larger versions of the Tangente. In them, however, the first Nomos automatic calibres are at work: these movements Epsilon and Zeta were designed and developed in Glashutte.
Mirko Heyne, the design engineer responsible for the Nomos Tangomat, explains their use of a strong mainspring and a large balance in the Tangomat to obtain a highly accurate rate. Mirko is quoted as saying "The accuracy of the rate is excellent. The deviation is considerably less than one minute a week, a performance on par with the accuracy of a certified chronometer."
Using larger components to obtain a good accuracy rate required the power of a large and heavy bidirectional rotor. Mirko comments that "The radius of the Nomos rotor is larger than the radius of rotors in comparable watches, and this bigger radius translates into more efficient winding."
In addition to being highly accurate, this watch is extremely comfortable to wear thanks to its uniquely designed lugs. Be sure to expand the picture above, and you will be able to see the curved pattern in the lugs which causes the watch to mold to the wrist.
Beautiful silver plated dial with a combination of Arabic and hour markings. The dial contains an off-center subsidiary seconds dial with a date window. The dial is first sand blasted, then bathed in silver to provide the unique Nomos coloring. The baton hands are made of polished steel and then flame blued.
The case is made in a special steel alloy which is nickel-free. When you purchase this watch from WatchBuys, your name and serial number are registered entitling you to a manufacturer's warranty. Sapphire crystal on front and back.
And last but not least - the strap. Nomos watches use hand stitched straps made from Shell Cordovan. The leather is very smooth, durable, water-resistant and extremely long-lived.
