Nomos has decided to retire all of the Norma Series watches (Nomos watches with black cases). We have the last few pieces of the Nomos Tangente in stock, but after they sell that's it.
This is Nomos' first collection to feature a black case which has been hardened.
To design this new case, Nomos starts with tempered surgical steel, and then uses a special PVD process to apply the black coating. This process is called TiAICN (titanium aluminum carbo-nitrade) and actually hardens the case.
Another thing we love about the new black case is the matte finish. The case back and strap buckle are also black.
The Nomos Tangente Black features an in-house movement with sapphire crystal back. During our visit to the Nomos workshops, we saw first hand the production of these movements, including all of the intricate operations necessary to cut and clean the metal using two separate locations in the very small village of Glashütte, Germany.
The movement begins with a traditional Glashütte 3/4 plate which is rhodium plated and decorated with Glashütte ribbing and Langeleist perlage.
Next, the ratchet and crown wheels are decorated with traditional Glashütte starburst patterns. Finely blued screws are used throughout, and other features include Triovis fine adjustment in four positions, hack mechanism, Nomos click, and power reserve of 45 hours.
This watch is extremely comfortable to wear thanks to its uniquely designed lugs. Be sure to expand the picture above, and you will be able to see the curved pattern in the lugs which causes the watch to mold to the wrist, and creates a length of 44 mm lug end to lug end.
Beautiful silver plated dial with a combination of Arabic and hour markings. The dial contains an off-center subsidiary seconds dial. The dial is first sand blasted, then bathed in silver to provide the unique Nomos coloring. The baton hands are made of polished steel and then flame blued.

And last but not least - the strap. Nomos watches use hand stitched straps made from Shell Cordovan. The leather is very smooth, durable, water-resistant and extremely long-lived.
