DUW 4101 Calibre "Swing System"
This watch features the new Nomos Swing System - a spring and escapement designed and built by Nomos.
The distinctive blue balance spring can be used to identify Nomos watches using the Swing System.
What is the Nomos Swing System?
Nomos has been working on their new escapement for a number of years, featuring an in-house balance spring, anchor and anchor wheel. The new Nomos balance spring was developed together with the German balance spring specialist Carl Haas and is immediately recognizable by its blue color.
Nomos Glashutte has spent more than 11 million Euros over the last few years to develop their movement components, of which this new swing escapement is a major developmental cost.
All Nomos movements featuring this new swing system will be designated as DUW (Deutsche Uhrenwerke).
The Nomos Ludwig has long been admired for its classic good looks and Roman numeral dial. This version of the Ludwig adds two new features to the original Ludwig, while retaining the manually wound movement:
- Case size increased from 35 mm to 38.0 mm
- Date display at 6
The case is made in a special steel alloy which is nickel-free.
And last but not least - the strap. Nomos watches use hand stitched straps made from Shell Cordovan. The leather is very smooth, durable, water-resistant and extremely long-lived.
Large Date Display
This watch features a new patented Nomos large date display. This date display is not only easier to read because of its larger size, it's also printed in the typography used on the overall dial design.
To make room for all of the additional parts required for this new large date display, the overall case size of the watch has been increased from earlier models.
