Product Details

It's all in the bezel.

Take a good look at this watch, and you'll notice a bezel unlike all others produced today.  In fact the entire case design makes a bold statement.

In 1955, Junghans developed a classic pilot's watch, called the Junghans J88 Bundeswehrchronograph (see picture to the right)Junghans J88 Bundeswehrchronograph, a watch in high demand at the time along with the Hanhart calibre 417.

This Junghans J88 is considered a collector's item today, and serves as the inspiration behind the new Junghans Meister Pilot Chronograph Vintage.

With an unmistakably  vintage look and feel, this new Junghans pilot's watch captures both the history and tradition of Junghans' strong connection to the aviation industry.

Junghans - A Rich History in Aviation

When it comes to aviation there are few things more important than timekeeping, as the high demands placed upon pilots require absolute attention to detail and precision.

Knowing this, Junghans set to work in the early 1930's to begin addressing the timekeeping needs of professional aviators by introducing on-board clocks for air traffic use.

Inspiration for their designs came directly from the aircraft themselves: cockpit instrumentation, which must offer clarity and legibility even in poor lighting conditions.

Although this watch takes its DNA from the 1955 Junghans J88 Bundeswehrchronograph, its construction, finishing and quality control are thoroughly modern.

Watch Construction - Sapphire Crystal

The Junghans Meister Pilot Chronograph Classic features a matte black dial sealed with a domed sapphire crystal with both interior and exterior anti-reflective coating for quick and easy viewing of the time in even the harshest of lighting conditions.

Likewise, the hands and numerals feature SuperLuminova with a vintage tan tint for increased legibility in low-light situations.

Junghans worked with Dubois Depraz to create the automatic winding calibre J880.4 to achieve the traditional bicompax display with subseconds at 3 and 30-minute register at 9.

Bezel and Case Design

A defining characteristic of the new Junghans Meister Pilot Chronograph Classic is the scalloped bi-directional bezel.

The bezel features twelve concave notches that make it remarkably easy to operate even when wearing heavy gloves.  This same bezel design is also found on the original 1955 watch and it remains just as functional today.

The oversized crown is etched with the Junghans six-pointed star logo and the case back is screwed.

You'll also notice a very distinctive design element on the case back - a specially-designed compass rose, which incorporates the symbolism of classic aviation in the form of an artificial horizon.

To complete the classic pilot design, this watch is fitted with a riveted black leather strap with contrasting white stitching and stainless steel tang buckle.

This watch is water resistant to 100 meters.
