Product Details

The Jochen Benzinger Silver and Blue Subskription has become one of our most sought after watches. When we approached Jochen with the idea of making a second Subskription complication with a partially cut away dial, he went to work and the result is of course amazing.

The differences between this watch and the Silver and Blue Subskription are as follows:
  • This watch features a partially cut out dial to view the movement from the front
  • This watch features a skeletonized and ratcheted crown wheel
  • This watch features blue platinum plated exposed gears visible from the front
  • This watch features hands which are a mix of silver and blue to match the coloring of the dial and gears

The colors used in this watch are amazing - a blend of silver and blue platinum on both sides of the watch. On the front Jochen has created a dial that is hand guillochéd using machines dating back to the early twentieth century (click here to learn more about these machines and the manufacturing process). The process of making just the dial can take days.

Next, he cuts out portions of the dial using a small engraver's hand saw. These cuts must be perfect - one slip can ruin the dial which has already been guillochéd.

The German word "Subskription" is taken from the French word "Souscription", and originally referred to a watch for which a down payment had been received. This term later became associated with movements of the finest design that separated the seconds function from the hours and minutes display, most notably where the hands were off center. This modification to the movement has been completely done in house.

To say the watch has engraved parts is understating the work involved. The entire movement must be completely disassembled with each movement part hand engraved and polished, many using elaborate designs. This watch like all of Jochen's watches is one watch that you will want to turn over to show what a true artist can accomplish.

The case features a coin edge finish and onion crown. The case itself has been bead blasted to a matte finish.

This watch is manually winding with a power reserve of 44 hours, and features a large sub seconds hand at 6. Sapphire crystals on both sides with screwed balance. The presentation box is elaborate, and naturally features engraved plates describing and naming the watch.

This watch ships with a black Benzinger calf leather strap and deployant buckle.
