New Limited Edition of 82 Pieces
In 2015, Hanhart created one of their best selling watches in the company's history - the Hanhart Primus Survivor Pilot. That watch featured a sand blasted case, bronze green dial and a heavy dose of attitude.
It's a watch for which we still receive requests today, and the entire series of 50 pieces sold out before production had been completed!
We are proud to announce a new watch to carry on the legacy of the Survivor Pilot, and something that you don't often see - a watch with a more expensive case at the same price as we sold the earlier model in 2015.
The Black Ops Project
We knew when the original Survivor Pilot was released two years ago that this style of watch would be a hit - the positive feedback we received was immediate and the reservations quickly sold out.
We also knew from early feedback at our Road Show events there was a large demand for such a watch in a black case, and we've been working with Hanhart to design the new Primus Black Ops Pilot for more than one year.
Adding the black DLC case and folding clasp gives this watch a new look and feel, and was a perfect complement to the bronze green dial.
The new Hanhart Primus Black Ops Pilot is a limited edition of 82 pieces to celebrate Hanhart's founding in 1882. This watch incorporates all the great features found in the original Hanhart Primus Survivor Pilot but now sports a new black DLC (diamond like carbon coating) case.
Hanhart chose the more expensive DLC case process due to its superior resistance to scratches and other abrasions. A DLC coating is considered the highest quality and hardest level of PVD coating.
Just after BaselWorld 2017 we made a trip to the Black Forest in Germany to visit with Hanhart and to see this new watch in person for the first time.
It's one thing to design a watch and see computer renderings, but quite another to actually see the first piece in person. This watch is a knockout, and the black case adds an element of understatement that we really like, especially in conjunction with the bronze green dial.
The design of the Primus Black Ops Pilot Limited Edition combines Hanhart's 130 year watchmaking tradition with modern elements.
To build this chronograph bicompax movement, Hanhart started with a Valjoux 7750 and then designed movement modifications to create the bicompax display.
These modifications have been carried out under the direction of Manufacture La Joux-Perret, and include adjusting the registers to correctly and proportionally fit the size of the dial (rather than the "pinched look" seen in other chronograph watches of this size).
This new chronograph, like the entire collection, features Hanhart's distinctive trademarks, including the red push button developed as a warning to pilots for the reset function.
We think the dial on this watch is among the most striking that we've seen. Hanhart developed a premium bronze green finish and used a convex sapphire crystal to complete the design.
The Arabic twelve and the luminous indexes are in Hanhart's traditional clean and legible design.
The Hanhart engraved clasp is one of the best made that we have seen on any watch brand, and is also finished with black DLC.
Additional features of this watch include:
- Hanhart designed bicompax chronograph modifications from Manufacture La Joux-Perret
- Skeletonized Hanhart rotor with engraved serial number
- Black DLC case for superior scratch resistance
- Fluted bezel with inlaid red marking
- Convex sapphire crystal with interior AR coating
- Sapphire crystal display back
- Flexible lugs (a design unique to Hanhart)
- Bronze green dial with SuperLuminova on hands, numerals and indices
- Hanhart trademark red chronograph button
- Oversized screw down crown
- Green textile strap with black DLC steel folding clasp
