A Complicated Masterpiece
Imagine telling a watchmaker that their job for the next two weeks is to work on just one watch movement.
And then add that this movement will consist of more than 500 parts, and will have complications found on no other watch.
We've given ourselves a migraine just writing this text.
This watch has so many functions that they are difficult to list.
But let's give it a try:
- Complete chronograph functions
- COSC certified chronometer
- Mechanical alarm
- GMT function
- Two power reserve indicators (watch and alarm)
- Two independent mainspring barrels
- AM/PM display windows
- Alarm On/Off indicator
And we're certain to have missed something.
And in spite of these many features and complications, Fortis has managed to build one good looking watch in a design that is actually easy to read.
The GMT time is located at 12 and is adjusted by a separate crown at 10.
The chronograph is operated and read in a traditional layout with pushers at 2 and 4, with the hour counter at 6 and the minutes counter at 12.
Next, take a look at the AM/PM indicator at 2 and the alarm "ON/OFF" indicator at 3.
Finally, the watch shows the power reserves for both the watch and the alarm in two separate indicators. The first indicator is located at 5 for the watch with the alarm power reserve indicator positioned at 7.
The pusher at 8 is used to activate or disengage the mechanical alarm function (the time for the alarm is set through turning the crown clockwise on the second click).
If all of this sounds complicated it really isn't - spending a bit of time with this watch reveals a very intuitive design and a watch that's a whole lot of fun to operate.
This watch is a limited edition of 100 pieces.
The Fortis Aviatis Daybreaker Stealth is powered by a proprietary movement - the Fortis calibre F-2012 which is actually patented.
Fortis has not only spent a lot of time on the design of the movement, but also on the design of the case and dial.
The matte black dial features contrasting white indicators, numerals, hands and markers.
The case is beautifully made with a polished finish. The watch is fitted with two sapphire crystals with double anti-reflective coating.
To finish it off, this watch is fitted with a black calf leather strap with alligator grain, matching stitching and tang buckle with engraved Fortis logo, and is water resistant to 50 meters.
