Over the years the Sinn U1 has become our best selling Sinn watch of all time. It's tough, durable, well made and looks great in a variety of clothing.

But one feature that the standard Sinn U1 did not offer was a fully Tegimented case (the standard Sinn U1 features only a Tegimented bezel). Because the Tegiment process does such a great job of protecting the watch against scratches and other abrasions, we asked Sinn to produce a special run of fully Tegimented watches for us, and we are pleased to announce that we are ready to begin accepting deposits for the next shipments.

Please note that this watch will not replace the current Sinn U1; it is simply a variant of that model that extends the Tegimenting protection for those who have requested this feature.

The Sinn U1-T features the same great case design made in-house from German submarine steel at Sinn's case making facility in Glashutte, Germany. Once the case is complete, the Tegimenting process begins, and when we say "fully Tegimented" we mean what we say - case, crown, bezel, case back and the bracelet.

Standard steel used by most watch companies has a hardness of between 200 and 240 HV (Hardness Vickers is a common scale used to measure material hardness). The Tegiment layer has a hardness of 1,200 Vickers which is up to five times harder than standard steel.

The Tegiment layer is not a coating consisting of a foreign material, instead the steel itself that has been hardened using a special engineering process that creates a hardened barrier. The base material is submarine steel, and the resistance to corrosion is even further improved by the Tegiment hardening process.

In summary, the Sinn U1-T is one tough watch that is designed to both last and look great over time.

The Sinn U1-T case is made from the same steel that is also used in the construction of the outer hull of submarines. The steel was procured by Sinn from a steel supplier to Emden GmbH, one of Germany’s North Sea shipbuilding yards who construct submarines from the very same steel. This special steel is also amagnetic which means that is does not have magnetic properties and cannot itself become magnetized. The watch movement itself is protected from magnetic fields up to 4,800 A/m.

Because of the special steel used from the submarine steel manufacturer, the case resists the effects of exposure to salt water and salt water environments. And the fully Tegimented finish protects the case from scratches and abrasions by actually hardening the steel.

The uni-directional ratchet operated rotating bezel is also milled from this submarine steel and is Tegimented. The indices are machined directly into the bezel without the use of bezel inserts, which can corrode or come loose at deep depths. The international testing lab of Germanischen Lloyd has tested the U1-T, and determined that the watch can be certified as water resistant to 1,000 meters. This same firm tests submarines for their ability to withstand the effects of underwater use.

Matte black dial with date at 3, Super Luminova on hands and markers, and striking red seconds hand complete the design. Other features include sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, and metal stainless steel bracelet which is hardened using the Tegiment process.

Comments about this watch: This is an amazing watch. A little on the hefty side but that doesn't detract from its character. When you wear it you feel it and others generally notice it. If the calender were perpetual you could probably wear it until the end of time. I encourage people to NOT buy the fully tegimented U1 to keep resale and collector value high.

Comments about this watch: I recently added the Sinn U1-T to my collection and could not be happier. Initially I was unsure the Bauhaus inspired styling would be to my liking, but in short order it has grown on me. The metal work quality and fit and finish is outstanding; as good as any in my collection including my Rolex and Breitlings. The service I received from WatchBuys was outstanding. The watch was in my hands in Calgary, Canada less than 18 hours after the order. I will certainly purchase from them in the future.

Comments about this watch: All I can say is, Love it Love it Love it Love the darker gray color and how everything matches, bracelet, bezel, case etc. They also have placed the Tegimented symbol on the case, case back, and clasp. I would buy one ASAP before there all gone.
